The Old Man And The Sea
Words: 733 / Pages: 3 .... man really enjoys and values the ocean. One way which Hemingway shows this is that Santiago refers to the sea as "la mar," a kind and beautiful yet sometimes cruel feminine creature. Younger fishermen refer to the sea as "el mar," which is masculine. Changing this to be masculine means that they do not feel that the sea has any beauty or significance other than for money. Another way that the author tells that the old man appreciates the ocean is in one of his descriptions in the book. "Most people are heartless about turtles because a turtle’s heart will beat for hours after it has been cut up and butchered. But the old man thought, I have suc .....

story, All 3 ghosts visit him. Through him, the lesson of the story is to be

commented about by characters in the book, some feeling pity, others feeling

"External heat and cold had little influence on Scrooge. No warmth could warm,
no wintry weather chill him. No wind that blew was bitterer than he…Nobody ever
stopped in the street to say, with gladsome looks, ‘My dear Scrooge, how are
you? When will you come to see me?'. No beggars implored him to bestow a trifle,
no children asked him what it was o'clock, no man or woman ever once in all his

Tortilla Flat Evaluation
Words: 507 / Pages: 2 .... They
also got drunk a lot. And at the end. . . well I won't spoil it, you'll
have to go through the pain of reading this book.
Most of the characters in the book weren't very interesting, but
if I have to choose one character, it would have to be Danny. That's
the obvious choice. He's the main character and he's pretty easy to
talk about. Danny is not that interesting, it's just that all of the
other characters are really boring. One thing that I thought was
interesting is how Danny was quite a drinker. He got drunk a lot.
And he ended up. . . whoops! Almost slipped you the ending.
Anyway, Danny was also the character that gave al .....

Summary Of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde
Words: 679 / Pages: 3 .... Endfield was describing his contact with Mr. Hyde.
His story consisted of seeing Hyde trample right over a little girl with
absolutely no remorse whatsoever. This story included Endfield's
description of Hyde which was quite disturbing. "He must be deformed
somewhere, he gives a strong feeling of deformity, although I couldn't
specify the point"(Stevenson,8-9). There is no pinpoint of what Endfield
saw that was so disturbing but it was something about him that did not seem
to be right.
When Mr. Utterson himself came across meeting Mr. Hyde in person,
he understood what his friend had told him. At first Hyde would not let
Utterson see his face, .....

Mice Of Men
Words: 492 / Pages: 2 .... Once, after being yelled at Lennie says, “I pinched their heads a little and then they was dead- because they were so little (13).” Lennie’s remorse is probably more for upsetting George than it is for actually killing the animal.
Another way that death and loss is evidenced by this novel is when Lennie killed Curley’s wife. When Lennie is in the barn (after killing his new puppy) Curley’s wife came into the barn and came on to Lennie. Lennie not knowing what was happening let her lull him into touching her hair. To Lennie it was like petting any other animal. Curley’s wife became flustered when Lennie be .....

Realism Verses Romanticism In
Words: 644 / Pages: 3 .... to be with Lysander. This act of love goes beyond any other in this play, and demonstrates Hermia’s devotion to Lysander. "My good Lysander, I swear to thee by Cupid’s strongest bow- Tomorrow truly will I meet with thee" (Act 1, Scene 1).
Helena is one of the silliest character’s in the play, and at times can be quite irritating. Demetrius shows no love for her, yet she persists in chasing him. "And even for that do I love you the more. I am your spaniel; and, Demetrius, the more you beat me, I will fawn on you" (Act 2, Scene 1). These characters are a true definition of "love sick." All of them appear to be in love with love, mo .....

characterizes Darcy as disagreeable and proud. When Elizabeth first meets
Wikham, she is blinded by her prejudice of Darcy as she accepts everything

Words: 1742 / Pages: 7 .... to be discovered by a neighbor of the couple because they
didn't think that an angel could wind up on their land. Who would think of an
angel landing? Meanwhile, Paul doesn't show when he discovers the magical power
of the rocking horse he received as a gift one year. He does ride it often as
Lawrence describes. The stories are bound by the fact that the magical things
they discover are unbelievable at best. They often criticize Paul for his
affection for a horse he should have outgrown long ago. No one would believe
that the rocking-horse essentially talked to him. Although the characters in "A
Very Old Man with Enormous Wings" believe that a .....
