.... By the end of this wonderful book we see the Joad family branching out in many different ways to embrace all of mankind as one big family. Ma Joad’s main concern at the beginning of the story is her family. She wants to keep the unit together and works diligently to achieve this goal. However, one by one, family members leave the group for various reasons leading to the slow but sure disintegration of the Joad clan. The first to go is Noah; then Grandpa and Grandma die;Connie walks off and leaves Rose of Sharon; Young Tom leaves because he has gotten into trouble again; and Al becomes engaged and decides to go with his fiancee’s fami .....

Toot-Toot was portrayed as a jester to lighten the mood of the story. His humor is what kept the other guards sane. Hal (Warden) Moores was the warden of Cold Mountain Penitentiary. .... He's Wonderful," F. Scott Fitzgerald develops in both of these ways. Fitzgerald uses direct characterization first in describing Minnie. Direct characterization is statements or facts that the author tells the reader directly. Using this we learned that Minnie is a fifteen-year-old girl, whose father had moved her to Southampton from New Orleans in May, in order to get her mind off of boys and love. This move was not very effective, she was engaged before the first of June. Second, Fitzgerald also uses indirect characterization, through thoughts, words, and actions and through perceptions of other characters. This shows that Minnie has a wonderful pe .....

He took lots of risk in helping others out. His lifestyle was very simple but joyful because he helped the poor people out. He .....

I think birth control can be c onsidered an equal responsibility in today's society. Letitia Anne Peplau and Susan Miller Campbell's story, The Balance of Power in Dating, defines what the word power means. They say that the definition of power is "One person's ability to influence the behavior of another to achieve personal goals-cannot be observed directly, but must be inferred from behavior." This definition suggests that power is only used to manipulate one person's thoughts, actions, or anything in the relations .....

.... This is the first of the many unwarranted charges that he claims. The girls in The Crucible, all make unwarranted charges against people for witchcraft, especially Abigail Williams. The leader of the accusations, she accuses various people from Elizabeth Proctor to Tituba. Joseph McCarthy and the girls earn the respect and awe of the people, instead of being riduculed for their unfounded accusations. The hostile interrogation of numerous innocent people occurs during both time periods. During the McCarthy trials, the inquisitors attempt to use slippery tactics to implicate the accused and others. Another cause of loneliness during the Great Depression is discrimination because of age, race, or sex. Loneliness is demonstrated in this novel by many of its characters. One character, Crooks has to live in an isolated shack next to the barn because he is black, his only companions are his books. He shows his loneliness when Lennie and Candy comes into his room and even if he says he does not want them in his room he cannot conceal his pleasure with anger. Curly’s wife is another character that shows loneliness because .....
