She is not like her sisters who follow the cultural expectations of early marriage, but she, instead, has greater ambition for her life. Sara plans to get an education which is not in her fathers plan for her life. Reb wants Sara to marry like her other sisters, and live a "holy" life according to the Torah. The reader begins to scorn Pip's treatment to the man that was once his only friend in life, Joe. Pip does undergo a change of heart towards the end, and he becomes more likable. For the majority of the novel, Miss. Havisham remains constant. Her hatred towards men is easily visible. She manipulates people to her advantage without a thought to their heart and feelings. One of the elements of nature that Guterson uses as a tool to develop the conflicts in Snow Falling on Cedars are the strawberry fields on the island. These fields represent an important source of income for the community. Traditionally the Japanese laborers worked the fields and the white Americans owned the fields. The question of the ownership of seven acres of strawberry fields serves as the apparent motive for the murder of Carl Heine. In other words, clap so that the sails of the boats his friends are riding in will be safely returned and Prospero can be "relieved by prayer" of the audience. All of what Prospero has said is very nice cute, but the most interesting part of this monologue is what Shakespeare himself is saying. "Now that my charms are all o'erthrown, and what strength I have's mine own" means, now my plays are over, and it's no longer my characters speaking. The "Island" or stage Shakespeare is on is now "bare" and it is time for "you" the audience to release Sha .....

.... slips sleeping pills into Molly’s wine to make it look like suicide. Molly continues to drown all her sorrows in the wine, getting dangerously close to death. This scene sticks out in the readers’ mind for several reasons, but a few very important ones. The first is that the reader now knows that their suspicions of Molly’s close friends are correct, and that everything is not what it seems to be. Up until this point, the reader had no idea that of all people, Jenna was not only responsible for the murder of Molly’s husband, but quite possibly the murder of Molly as well. Gene was jealous of Finny's confidency, openness, modesty, superb athletic abilities, his natural leadership skills, his ability to deal with stress easily, his care free attitude, his people skills and, of course, his good looks.
