"O, beware, my lord, of jealousy; it is the green-eyed monster which doth mock the meat it feeds on…" (Othello, III.iii 169-171) In his rage, Othello charges Iago with the killing of Cassio, his lieutenant who supposedly slept with his wife. Penelope knew that only Odysseus could accomplish this task. By doing this, she avoided having to marry one of the suitors. Staying loyal to Odysseus brought about positive consequences to Penelope. She was reunited with her beloved husband Odysseus. Kino's wife Juana stayed by her husband through his time of distress. Although it was her belief that the pearl was an omen of evil, she loyally stayed at her husband's side. Juana remained loyal to Kino .....

Using stream of consciousness gives us a better feeling of what the characters are going through, which in turn gives us a better understanding of the meaning. We also see the use of irony, using a word or phrase to mean the exact opposite of its literal or normal meaning. The irony is that the story is titled "A Haunted House" which made us think that the house was an evil place. The house ends up being where every thing good happens. The ghosts did not haunt .....

That means do not miss school on purpose, spend some time with teachers or other students after school, listen to other conversations, or maybe even get a job which does not require great language skills. It might be bagging or pushing carts at a Super Market for example. But students also have to be very careful with that and work their schedule so they will have enough time later, to study. Stephen was reared in a strict Catholic family. The demand for compliance placed on Stephen shapes his life early at Clongowes, a preparatory school run by the Jesuit order. Even as he is adhering to the principles of his Catholic school upbringing, he becomes increasingly disillusioned. Even though Joyce spoke warmly of his own experiences at Clongowes he portrays a different, almost opposite experience for Stephen (Kershner 4). Formerly above reproach or distrust, the priest .....

The conch shell represents power and authority, Ralph uses the shell to call for the boys to come to the meetings, whoever has the shell has the power to talk. “The conch shows how people use objects to give power in the world, like a crown, ribbon, or other things that show who has power. .... This scene is showing that they are killing each other for unknown reasons. Buck killed a Shephardson just because and that is the only reason. He was brought up thinking to kill the Shephardson was the right thing to do. Later in the novel it is asked, "Well, who done the shooting? Was it a Grangerford or a Shephardson?" Buck replies, "Laws, how do I know? It was so long ago." The reader is sadden by this moment that is shown through irony. This feud is one of the most ironic events in the book but Twain uses irony for other occasions, too. The second circumstanc that stands out in my mind for being so ironic would be when Sophia Grange .....

.... Twain takes to his characters that seem to be striving for excellence is quite unique. In an excerpt from Life On The Mississippi Twain tells us of a man with a dream. As imperfection has it this man’s dream did not come true. But his friend’s similar dream , however, did. The narrator tells us through a blanket of jealousy how this man was perpetually annoying, and how, “there was nothing generous about this fellow and his greatness.” Like many of Twain’s writings this excerpt shows us a man with convictions as he looks at a seemingly good example and puts it under a different light.
