.... The purpose of a pickup is to "pick up" the sounds of the notes or chords that are being strummed. There are many different types of pickups; for instance, the Gibson Les Paul has pickups that are called Humbuckers, which are much higher and of a better quality than the pickups on an Ibanez. The Ibanez comes with regular music store pickups that are not bad but do not have the quality of the Humbuckers. So having better quality means that the pickups are more sensative; being more sensative means that the guitar can put out clearer and higher quality sound.Moving to the lower part of the guitar, both guitars have knobs. .... I became confused when my parents said I could see an "PG-13" rated movie but the theater wouldn't let me in. When I argued that "my parents said I could go see it!!", the theater management always said things like I need to be 13 or must be accompanied by a parent and so on. I then proposed this question, my parents said I could see it, now why can't I see it? The answer to that question is the government doesn't think I am old enough. My mom said live with it, there is nothing you can do. I think that made me more inquisitive. .... all like to explain my personal opinion. I believe that 'good' art has something to offer to the individual perceiver, be it painting, book, film, dance or music. These are all different forms of art, but one thing binds them all together - the fact that they are creations, created and crafted to the personal specifications of the artist. This makes the product original. Two values by which I judge music are creativity and originality. I believe that good art provides 'food for thought' - that special something which, after the tape has finished, after leaving the cinema or closing a book, leaves an 'aftertaste' - something to think about, be it, .....

.... Capella? Some musical dictionaries indicate that the Italian a cappella is preferred over the Latin a capella (one "p") yet both are technically correct. Why do those dictionaries muddy the waters with two spellings? The phrase was first used in Italian Catholic churches, where Latin was the language for sacred text. Thus, the Latin spelling for 'in the style of the chapel' - a capella - has some historical basis. However, most other musical terms - forte, accelerando, and many others - are Italian in origin. .... They made it to America in 1964 and swept the world off its feet with Beatlemania. Their musical style changed throughout the years as much as their physical appearance did. A whole generation looked up to them and their cultural impact can still be felt today. The Sex Pistols are the most notorious band of all time. They lightning bolted onto the scene and then were gone equally as fast. However, they were to have an impact on popular music that hadn't been felt since the Beatles. Although they weren't the first punk group, they definitely defined the genre in the popular sense. From their music come new wave, alternative, and grunge. Lyric .....

.... did write and sing music about these topics, they would expand their range of listeners but they would also loose the nice clean cut image. I don't think that any of these bands have to struggle because before you know it these feel good-happy music groups are popping up everywhere. What should they do? When most bands start playing they go through many years of building a fan following. That's the problem with these groups. Playing with instruments would help a lot! A solid bass line and a little good guitar never hurt anybody. Don't get me wrong, I think everyone should be able to choose there own music (yes even country). So stick to b .....

.... also met guitarist Bob Weir and together they formed a band called Mother McCree's Uptown Jug Champions. A few weeks later Bob Matthews,who later became a part of the Grateful Dead electronics and recording family,joined the group along with John "marmaduke" Dawson,who later joined the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Work was scarce for the Jug Champions until Dana Morgan, owner at the store where Jerry taught banjo and Pig Pen worked,provided the money and equipment for them to become electric. After they had become electric they renamed the group the Warlocks. Dawson and Matthews were soon to leave and they were replaced by drummer Bill Sommers .....
