In 1950, Sakharov was assigned to work in a secret city with other scientists to further develop the bomb. It was there that he designed a plasma that would help produce energy from sustained fusion. In 1953, Russia tested its hydrogen bomb and it proved to be successful. At the age of 32 he was elected to the Soviet Academy of Sciences. Sakharov continued his work on improving the bomb. ....
