.... the past, remembering how weak and weary he felt. He remembers himself almost falling asleep next to the fire and a good book, and as he is just about asleep he hears a tapping at the door, which he considers is a visitor that he want to ignore. You can almost feel how tired he is and how he does not want to get up and answer the door.
