Nathaniel Hawthorn’s epic short-story “The Young Goodman Brown”, is a story about a fall from innocence. The character that looses his innocence, or his illusion of innocence, is the main character, Goodman Brown. As the pages of the story are turned, Goodman Brown’s outlook on his Salem .... Middle of paper .... and pleasant in his environment. Not long after Goodman Brown’s journey down the wooded path, but he comes upon the figure of a man. This is Hawthorn’s opening stage for Goodman Brown’s disillusionment, which turns out to be the beginning of the end for Young Goodman. The man along the path is clearly seen as evil because of the detailed description of his devilish appearance and the nature of this late-night rendezvous.
