I enjoyed this short story. It was well written, easy to understand, and the descriptions were very good. Upon my first reading of the story I as unsure of what the symbolism was. I knew that hand had to stand for something because of the title and the intense descriptions and focus that was use ....

.... may not be as sweet and kind as she had imagined. She is now able to see the nasty side of him. When she cries out she seems to be almost afraid of the hand meaning she is actually afraid of him. When the hand is moved she is calmed again, but only until the morning when she sees it again. I still do not understand why she kisses it. She gives in and accepts the fact that she will see the hand every day and constantly be reminded of the fact that this man is a stranger.
