Edna refused to attend her sister’s funeral even though, according to her father, she should go out of “womanly consideration”. And as most wives unconditionally obeyed their husbands, Edna often refused her husband’s wishes from simple matters of merely meeting him downtown to more complex issues such as her Tuesdays at home.
