Descartes in his first meditation uses the first meditation uses the evil genius argument; no doubt to bring us to question whether good is really good and not an evil genius. This argument seems to me to be very effective at stirring questions, which can never really be confirmed. Even if God were ....

.... us to raise questions of our own about what we believe to be truths. In the light of his arguments it is hard to firmly root any of our preconceived knowledge. He shows us all of the difficulties there are in trying to do so.
I do find his arguments convincing, for I have often found myself in life asking the same type of questions. I have never found any real answers for these questions. None at least that I can call knowledge in a true sense.
