This represents the American people having to pay fines, such as taxes and tariffs, to the government in the mid-1800’s. Pahom lives in a commune and some of the people have begun to buy their own tracts of land. He sees this and decides that it would be a good idea if he did the same thing. On their way back from the fair they see a mysterious figure sleeping on a tree stump close to their home. The girl sleeping on the stump looked very tired and in need of help. When Sethe asks the girl what her name is, she replies by saying it is Beloved. This comes as great shock, because that is what Sethe had wrote on her dead child’s tombstone. Beloved soon ends up staying with the family for months. Mysteriously Paul D leaves the house. Beloved becomes strongly attached to Sethe. Soon peculiar thing .....

He wanted to bring out their feelings and the emotional roller coaster that these women deal with on a daily base. Galme also wanted to be fair and show the men's perspective and point of view in the story. The other point the author might have been trying to bring out is the differences in how each generation thinks. There was a constant battle between the older generation verses the newer generation and their modren way of thinking. Galme was able to achieve his goal by taking the tradition .....

Finally, at the end, Farragut miraculously escapes from prison, and the unpleasant world he was living in. Farragut's actions tend to add emotional tension to the novel. The novel reminds us that man has always had to face new and inhospitable environments, and that change, with its accompanying reactions of surprise and shock, can be stimulating as well as disturbing (Bracher N. Pag.). Farragut did not mean to kill his brother. His brother's death was an accident, and he is now being sentenced for it. .....
