Words: 752 / Pages: 3 .... No longer did I see
my friends, I was like a little duck lost in a big pond. There were
different faces, different looks, and a different feel. I can truthfully
say that the first day of school was one of the worst days of my life. I
had never been so far away from my friends. That year, nevertheless, still
saw me pass with a 3.5 grade point average. Still, something was missing.
My best friends were all gone. While they were busy enjoying high
school together, by contrast, it was hard for me to make friends. I was so
caught up at leaving my old friends that being sociable seemed non-existent.
I was insecure. While students were talking .....

Personal Writing: My Dog Skippy
Words: 475 / Pages: 2 .... He ran his business out of his house that sat on a fairly large
piece of land. My mom felt it would be OK to let Skippy run around the

came to pick me up at my friend's house. When I got in the truck she told me
Skippy never came back after her appointment. As we drove back to Golden to see
if my dog returned I remember thinking I would trade anything if I could only
have my dog back. As we neared the house I saw Skippy in our head lights waging
his tail like an angel.

share was our Algebra II class that followed the lunch period. Most days
Chris would still be studying while I was on the way out of the cafeteria.
One day in particular, the bell that marks the end of the lunch period had
just rung, and I was heading out for Ms. Henyon's math class. I saw up
ahead of me, Chris frantically flipping through his Algebraic Concepts text
book. I approached Chris and asked: "Did we have any homework we were
supposed to do?"
"All we had to do was study for the test today," Chris replied.
As usual, I had forgotten another quiz; either that I had chosen to neglect
it. Whichever it was, I never study for tests .....

anything extra, out of the ordinary, for anyone but himself.
On the other side of town there was a new arrival to the city. This
man's name was Running Bear. He was an American Indian who had gone to New York
to seek his fortune; however, he soon fell upon hard times. He had lived a life
of monetary deprivation on the plains of Colorado, and had proceeded to New York
by Amtrak with only a dollar and a dream. Things did not go as planned, though;
he could not find a job and had taken to panhandling and sleeping in the streets.
His dreams, no doubt influenced by the fumes coming up from the sewer, were of
money. A good man who only want .....

Personal Writing: My First Hockey Match
Words: 442 / Pages: 2 .... I noticed in
the Dairy Queen booth a heavenly looking vanilla sundae, mounded with plump,

noticed Little Ceasars advertising grease puddled on top pepperoni pizza
and a frothy mug; emersed with crisp cold beer…this teased my temptation.
With only a few dollars left, and my arms filled with delectable treats, I
finally reached gate 201.
I pushed the heavy blue drapery to my side. Standing in awe, my
eyes scanned the gigantic arena. Everyone, including myself could feel the
anxiety drippin .....

Balances Of Values And Academic Freedom Of Inquiry
Words: 601 / Pages: 3 .... all the content of
any course we study. We are free to take exception to the views or information
presented to us, and we are free to reserve judgment about matters of opinions.
Sometimes, in our quest for knowledge, there becomes a conflict between
our beliefs we are accustomed to and the material presented to us. When there is
a difference, we should not ignore the idea or block it out. We should feel free
to learn and question new ideas. Just because we learn something doesn't mean we
have to accept it. We should leave ourselves open to new ideas. When we do this
we become very well rounded individuals.
An example of this is the issue involv .....

activity regarding the X-Files goes on over the Internet, and through
discussions are where I get a lot of my ideas for the stories that I write.

I look down towards the court where the players have now started shooting
