Should Drugs Be Legalized?
Words: 683 / Pages: 3 .... a drug related crime wave. Government surveys show
between 1980 - 1987 burglary rates fell 27 percent, robbery 21 percent
and murders 13 percent, but with new drugs on the market these numbers
are up. One contraversial solution is the proposal of legalizing
drugs. Although people feel that legalizing drugs would lessen crime,
drugs should remain illegal in the U.S because there would be an
increase of drug abuse and a rapid increase of diseases such as AIDS.
Many believe that legalizing drugs would lessen crime. They
point out that the legalization of drugs would deter future c .....

Date Rape
Words: 902 / Pages: 4 .... The question might come up...why would a man force a woman
to have sex, or why would a woman doubt that it happened, or that she was
forced? Well, there are many reasons. A lot of these reasons having to do with
how American kids are raised. Boys are brought up thinking they are strong and
aggressive, while on the other hand, girls are brought up being passive and
"what you say goes" (Shuker-Haines and Stark 23) . This shouldn't be going on
in our society...not with the advancements we have made in our country.
It is sometimes said that the woman who was the victim of rape shared fault for
the rape for wearing a skirt too short, or maybe i .....

The Death Penalty: To Be Or Not To Be...
Words: 1751 / Pages: 7 .... and punishment:
America changes it's mind ": The media's extensive coverage of crime, especially
the most brutal and horrific cases have heightened the public's fear and anger
over this issue to a near frenzy. When asked in January of this year, " How
often do you see reports of violent crime on television ? " 68 % replied "
almost every day ".
Although the media have played an important role in raising the public's
awareness of lawlessness, crime in America is far from a media - created
phenomenon. Government statistics support the image of a nation which has
overwhelmingly lost the war against crime. For instance, in 1960 there were 161

The Mafia
Words: 1785 / Pages: 7 .... such as, cattle theft, extortion, and
kidnapping. By the turn of the century, the Sicilian Mafia was the most
powerful and well organized of all Italian criminal groups. “Like a cancer,
the Sicilian approach to crime was metastasizing, sending out its aberrant
cells to colonize social tissues elsewhere, especially in the United
States” (True Crime).
Immigration to the United States, from Italy, began around 1870. “
Of the approximately 5.3 million that have followed, approximately 25
percent came from Sicily” (Italian 4). The mass immigration took place
for many reasons. Many wanted to move because of poverty and rampant
inflation. .....

Drinking And Driving Offenses
Words: 1196 / Pages: 5 .... If, for example you are convicted of
"Refusing to give a breath sample" for the first time, but was earlier convicted
of "Driving while impaired", your conviction for "Refusing" will count as a
second conviction, not a first, and will receive the stiffer penalty for second
offenses.
For the first offense here is the penalty and the defences you can make.
Driving a vehicle while your ability to drive is impaired by alcohol or drugs is
one of the offenses. Evidence of your condition can be used to convict you.
This can include evidence of your general conduct, speech, ability to walk a
straight line or pick up objects. The penalty of the f .....

Effects Of Television Violence
Words: 1625 / Pages: 6 .... Some are trying to fight this problem. Others are ignoring it
and hoping it will go away. Still others don't even seem to care.
However, the facts are undeniable. The studies have been carried out
and all the results point to one conclusion: Television violence
causes children to be violent and the effects can be life-long.
The information can't be ignored. Violent television viewing
does affect children. The effects have been seen in a number of cases. In
New York, a 16-year-old boy broke into a cellar. When the police
caught him and asked him why he was wearing gloves he replied that he
had learned to do so to not leave fingerprints and that he dis .....

Police Brutality
Words: 722 / Pages: 3 .... and the public.
For those people who feel racism is not a factor in causing the use of
excessive force, here is a startling fact. In Tampa Bay, Florida, five men died
while in the custody of the Tampa Bay police Department (C.C. 27). The thing is,
the Tampa Bay Police Department is made up of mostly white officers, but of the
five men who died, none where white. Four of the five men that died where
African Americans, and the other man was a Mexican National.
If the incident in Tampa Bay does not show a person racism, this event
might. In New York City, an average of seven Latin Americans were killed a year
between 1986 to 1989, but in 19 .....

That was only one of the millions of tragic stories that parents sometimes have to face. A 16-year-old just receiving his or her license and thinking that they can do anything. What they don't realize is what danger they are putting themselves, as well as others into.
As a group, teenage drivers have high crash rates per mile driven. What isn't so widely k .....

The Death Penalty
Words: 607 / Pages: 3 .... lies
between, is the death penalty being accepted in murder cases or ruled out
completely. While some people feel that Capital Punishment will not
discourage crime, Capital punishment should be legalized in all states,
because it is morally just and it will deter crime.
The many opponents of capital punishment who are against it feel that
the death penalty is not a deterrent and that it is barbariaertic of the
past. It has no place in a civilized society today. One of the biggest
arguments against capital punishment is people feel that it violates the
eighth amendment which forbids cruel and unusual punishment. People

If Marijuana Were To Be Legal
Words: 788 / Pages: 3 .... alcohol use was still sold and used, but people were
doing it illegally. The 21st amendment repealed prohibition and alcohol
taxes were increased. The same thing should happen with drugs. Marijuana
should be taxed heavily to increase our revenue. Marijuana and other drugs
would be made by the same people who make aspirin so the quality would be
assured, containing no poisons or adulterants. Sterile hypodermic needles
will be readily available at corner drug stores. These could be taxed
heavily because the users will be assured of "clean drugs."
Making drugs legal will reduce the great amounts of money spent on
enforcement every year. Dru .....
